piano lessons to MOTIVATE... |
..........................................................
Sadly, most children who begin piano lessons in Hamilton, Ontario (as elsewhere) fail to complete their first year. WHY?
Most adults whose private piano lessons in Hamilton, Ontario (as elsewhere) once guided them to a reasonably accomplished level of competence, no longer play. WHY?
Our present approach to piano lessons must be questioned!
Why does anyone choose to learn piano? Obviously, to acquire the skills required for the life-long enjoyment of music-making, and the source of self-expression it offers. Consider the following points regarding private piano instruction:
1. The enjoyment of music is the ultimate goal of piano lessons!
2. Every piano pupil is an individual, with unique personality traits, musical tastes and learning patterns, which must be recognized by the piano teacher.
3. Every piano pupil must be allowed to progress at a personally appropriate pace.
4. Music-making is an unmatched form of self-expression. Creative music-making, in particular, should be encouraged!
5. It has been said that playing the piano requires greater brain activity than any other human endeavour. Obviously, self-confidence should be nurtured.
When students ENJOY both the piano lesson and piano-playing, then enthusiasm, effort and progress follow naturally! Students will choose to learn!
Piano lessons should be approached as an opportunity and privilege...NEVER as a "required chore"!
Piano teachers with a sincere love of music and music-making, and who thrive on sharing it, are those whose pupils are most likely to continue to enjoy quality music-making for the rest of their lives. A good piano teacher, in Hamilton, Ontario, as elsewhere, is not only highly qualified in the art of music, but also in the art of teaching. Even the most enthusiastic of piano teachers cannot offer much hope for a pupil's musical success, unless appropriately trained in both the Art of Music and the Art of Teaching, particularly Educational Psychology.
The study of music (particularly the piano) has been proven to increase intelligence, self-discipline, self-confidence, patience, tenacity, organizational skills, emotional control, sensitivity, and countless other aspects of a "complete personhood ".
Please, consider these matters carefully, then take your time...shop around to find the most suitable piano teacher for yourself or your child. A good starting point is to ASK! Speak to your local music school teachers, church organists, and members of your local symphony and bands. Often, referrals from other successful piano students can be helpful, too. The ultimate goal of every good piano teacher is to provide piano lessons which will equip the student with the skills and knowledge necessary for a lifetime of the enjoyment of confident and competent music-making. Be sure to choose a piano teacher who will strive to achieve these goals.
